Story telling

ATALANTA STORY TELLING - personal experience.

If I were to describe in a couple of words the recording of this story telling I would say FUNNY and TIRING. It took us about 5 hours to shoot all the scenes, as we tried to physically characterize all the characters as well as the spot. We also filmed in different locations, where we thought it would be more appropriate for each event. Our group is made up of only girls, so we had to play the roles of men. It was fun to characterize ourselves as men, the bloopers when something didn't go as expected; in short, the face to face experience we had as colleagues working for the same goal: to get a good outcome in our project.

Regarding the story of atalanta, I consider it to be interesting as well as a bit extensive and complex to perform; however, we knew how to choose the main points to show while maintaining the essence of the story. Performing the story made me go deeper into the message it conveys because even though it is an old story there are always features that are applicable to today's reality. For example: the value of women, the betrayal of the family, the selfishness that leads to death, etc. The messages I found when playing this story are really insightful and compelling.

It was nice to interact with my classmates as in the old days of face-to-face modality. Being back on campus brought me good memories, especially now that I am a step away from finishing my major. It has definitely been a very memorable academic experience, very meaningful as it has been accompanied with a bit of fun. This is a beautiful subject as long as the educators know how to teach it.

In conclusion, speaking from my experience and serving as a voice for all generations on the way, it is urgent that the major returns to its respective face-to-face modality, not only for the meaningful coexistence among students but also for the more enriching lessons that are taught on campus.

Short story writing

My experience in creating the short story.

Working in groups has never been a problem for me, on the contrary, I think that if we maintain good communication it is possible to obtain better outcomes. As it is said, two heads think better than one, and I personally do believe that to be true.

My group for this work consisted of 5 girls. Regarding the communication between us, from the beginning we created a WhatsApp group where we  share ideas, websites that we found, articles, or any information that we think could be useful for us. In addition, when we had to make a decision as a group, we did Google Meet calls. We were randomly dividing up the work, which makes it somewhat fairer and more democratic.

For the creation of the short story, we set up a Google shared document where we had the opportunity to write our own ideas so that our partners could give them a look. In fact, we worked on the whole story in this way, in the shared document. We wrote or improved ideas from our partners, all working at our own pace and time, but always respecting the time frame we were assigned. I think sometimes it was a bit complicated to match everyone's idea. However, the result was quite favorable and I have no complaints about the relationship we established as a group.

I consider it so important to know how to work collectively, improving patience and tolerance when needed, since in life we encounter many situations where it is a must to work with others and we must be flexible to the other people's suggestions.

LIFE

 STAGES

From a very young age we always hear about the "stages of life" and how everything changes in the course of time: friends, family and of course yourself! They talk about how we mature, the responsibilities we acquire, jobs, projects, a little bit of everything; however, we don't really manage to measure what those words, said from someone else's experiences mean, until YOU yourself realize that 10 years have already passed since you were at school, and you are in a such different stage now.

This week one of my friends and schoolmates got married, and I served as a witness. Let me tell you that I had many mixed feelings at that moment!! Obviously I felt so happy and excited for her, and for the special event we were celebrating, but on the other hand, the fact of witnessing her marriage made me reflect on the stage in which I am living. Clearly we are in different stages despite being the same age, which is not a bad thing, on the contrary, it is an example that we are all living at our own pace.

I guess we are all aware that nothing and no one will stay the same forever, but I would dare say that we all (at least in our 20s) experience the constant fear of not knowing what direction to take, of not knowing if you are actually doing the right thing. You may wonder why? I'd simply say that we somehow realized that we have already grown up, that we are in a totally different stage of life now and some more are still waiting for us...

If someone reading this feel me... I wish you peace and wisdom to enjoy and learn at every stage and to make decisions that will always lead you towards growth. 🙌

May God bless you!

POETRY

If I date you and you don't speak Spanish

I'll spend my whole life explaining me

in a different language,

entirely from my most authentic self;

who you may never get to see.

It's usually okay for a while

I ignore it as best as I possibly can,

I mean it's just a language right,

and you're still such a nice man.

But then, there are certain sayings

that I only speak at home

and I've spent my entire life translating

what it feels like to be alone.

You see, there are two parts of me

my heart is split in two

one will always be in Mexico

and one may end up marrying you.

I've only ever spoken Spanish at home,

it's the only way I know

how to pray, how to say my name

how to answer the phone;

that part of me will always stay.

If I date you and you don't speak Spanish,

I could be very happy in theory,

but every night when I go to bed

my heart will cry from being so weary.

I brought someone to Mexico once,

he didn't understand what that meant,

and maybe he loved me,

but just to a very certain extent,

a very small amount of time

to him I was "just a phase"

and I didn't know that I could cry in Spanish

for quite so many days.

If I date you and you don't speak Spanish

it could work out I guess

If you don't suddenly feel the need

to make feel like I am less

because I am double the excitement

worth double the time

I am a matcha green latte

and simultaneously a tequila topped with lime.

I've been translating myself my entire life

all my worries and woes,

but the most intimate parts of me,

that English language still never knows.

If I date you and you don't speak Spanish

eventually, I will lack

because I'll miss my first language

and I'll desperately want it back.

A few days ago, sailing through the waves of my Tik tok, I found the amazing poem written above. I don't exactly know why it caught my attention, maybe because of its first verse referring to languages. I would like to point out that since it was a video recitation of the poem by the author, I am not sure about its punctuation or strophe division, but I wanted to share it with you as well as some personal comments about it.

First off, how beautiful is modern poetry!!! The choice of words and the feeling that the young lady puts into her writing really hooks you. Personally, I think that the poem, beyond talking about the difference in languages, also refers to culture. I believe that our environment and experiences influence our thoughts and attitudes that is why there is usually a cultural clash between people from different countries, which can be something minimal and insignificant as well as a trigger, that on an emotional level makes you feel what the author conveys in this poem.

The last three phrases are significant for me "eventually, I will lack because I'll miss my first language and I'll desperately want it back" because I get the impression that it refers to the power of loving yourself despite anything/anyone, learn your worth, and realize what you deserve.

These other verses "and maybe he loved me, but just to a very certain extent" talk also about love. While it is certain that in a relationship we must keep in mind that each person shows love in different ways, it is important to pay attention if we are receiving a different love language than ours, or simply are not receiving anything at all.

I really recommend this Mexican girl's poetry, I left her username at the end of the poem, right below her name so you can find some of her writings in her accounts.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Thanks for reading ❤

Something to reflect on.

 C O M U N I C A T I O N

It is quite curious how the subject of communication is usually approached in different ambits and perspectives, which makes us realize the extent of this word. It is common to hear that communication is the basis for a good relationship (not necessarily a loving one); but, are we really aware of it? Have we ever thought about how much we can learn by having a good communication with the people surrounding us? Have we ever dimensioned all we could avoid? Have we ever thought about how we could grow as a human being? I would say no.

As individuals, we have the ability to communicate in different ways, by signs, gestures, movements, writing, etc.; however, I would say that there is no better way to convey what you mean than through words. By talking you can let your partner know that you are not comfortable with any attitude he/she is having with you; by talking you can tell your boss that he/she is being a little rude to you while you are giving your best in the position you hold; by talking you can tell your family that you really appreciate their love and care for you, but that you still need a bit of freedom to make decisions and control your life. You see? by speaking up and making proper use of your words and voice it is possible to improve your environment, to change what makes you discomfort.

I know that for many, expressing themselves through words causes them a lot of fear or insecurity, but if we are conscious of how important and beneficial it is, why not give it a try? In the end, we also have the ability to learn and unlearn at any time we want, we all are capable of getting used to new things or people, of creating new habits.

I consider that communication and education are closely related, how a person expresses him/herself in situations of anger or disappointment, for example, lets us realize how educated that person is. Good communication can be a key for success.

Music

Shakira and the MTV VMAs 2023

The MTV Video Music Awards is an award show hosted by MTV channel to honor the bests ones in the music video medium. It is held once a year in the United States, just before the summer.

Shakira is a Colombian artist known internationally for her singular voice and her amazing dance moves. From a very young age, she began her musical career which over the years has given her great success and the MTV VMAs 2023 has been no exception.

Last September 12th and 13th Shakira attended these awards giving a 10 minutes presentation where she performed some of her greatest hits along her career. She made his flexibility known by switching from one genre to a totally different one in a matter of seconds. Undoubtedly, what has caused the most buzz among us in the Latin community and therefore the media, is the fact that she won the special Video Vanguard Award, being the first Latin American artist to do so.

In her speech, she thanks her family, her parents but especially her children to whom she says: "thank you for cheering me up and making me feel that mama can do it all". These words full of love touched many people's hearts, after the news of their father's infidelity and seeing how Shakira, in spite of her responsibilities as an artist, does not leave her children alone.

As it is said, Shakira actions many Latino families where the mother has always been the one who struggles to raise her children; where the mother plays many roles, but does not neglect her role as MOM in all circumstances.

LATEST NEWS!

 ABORTION DECRIMINALIZED IN MEXICO

This week, the news of the decriminalization of abortion in Mexico has been all over the media.
I read and also saw a couple of videos explaining the difference between decriminalization and legislation as many people show concerns about how it would be done in public institutions, and so do I.

What feminist groups have been claiming for in recent years is "free, legal and safe abortion"; however, the fact that the Supreme Court of Justice has decriminalized it in all Mexican territory does not mean that it is already available to every woman who wishes to have it done.  First off, abortion procedure may require a lot of supplies and training of the medical staff, which may take a little more time. In addition, it is said that this decision does not make abortion a citizen's right, as it is decriminalized but not legislated, so that any institution can still refuse to carry it out.

A large part of the population, mostly religious, is quite disappointed by this decision since they are totally opposed to abortion legalization. On the other hand, feminist groups celebrate this event as a real achievement, since it's undoubtedly made history.

From your standpoint, do you consider it was the right thing? Would you like the same to happen in our country?
From my perspective and the stage of my life I am living in today, I would say YES.

Thanks for reading and see you at next one!
